US students will be able to shield themselves during school shootings with the latest in body armour, the Bodyguard Blanket
Are fucking kidding me? I have been sitting at home and constantly watching the news after the events of yesterday. For those of you who are wondering, I am a junior at REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL! I was there when the shooter kept running in the halls trying to open the doors and get in. I was there in the dark praying and crying while my librarian kept saying ” they’ll have to kill me before they touch my kids” I have known her for three years, her determination to keep us safe broke her heart. Seeing this, that little children need protection in school. Are we sending kids to a battlefield? I have three little brothers ranging from 5-10, and still people have the nerve to speak about the second amendment? Really? I can’t even type anymore. I’m so disgusted and frustrated. When will you realize that it’s important to have gun control? When a shooter is pointing a gun at your child? Is that when you’ll realize that guns aren’t something to be kept around. People say it’s a free country but honesty, this country is more oppressed and diseased than any other country.
Show me ONE instance where gun control and gun free zones prevented school shootings.
I THINK YOU ARE MISSING THE FUCKING POINT! THERE HAVE BEEN ALMOST 40 SCHOOL SHOOTINGS THIS YEAR ALONE! MORE THAN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!
TELL ME HOW THAT IS NOT A PROBLEM! /TELL ME/
One instance? Hell, I’ll give you two: Australia and Britain.
Australia had a rash of mass shooting in the ’80s and ’90s which culminated in the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 in which 35 people were killed. Following the incident, Australia issued a series of gun control laws and have since not had a single mass-shooting incident. That’s eighteen years without a mass shooting. Oh, and their incidents of murders and suicides dropped by huge numbers. We’re talking they cut both by around half.
Meanwhile, over in Britain, after the Dunblane massacre (also in 1996), Britain also passed sweeping gun control reform. Since then, they’re had only two mass shootings, one by Michael Ryan in Hungerford (after which more gun control laws were passed), and one by Derrick Bird in Cumbria. The Cumbria shootings occurred in 2010, meaning it’s been four years since Britain had a mass shooting.
… oh, I’m sorry, did you mean in THIS country? Because in this country, we don’t even try to do a goddamn thing in response to school shootings. We say we’re going to, and then Congress votes them down, and then a week goes by (if that) and more shootings happen and we forget to give a shit.
But if you’re looking for instances in which schools caught students with loaded weapons before they could participate in a school shooting, here
— oh, for Pete’s sake, just google “student brings gun to school” like a person with two brain cells to rub together and read some of the 10.3 million results. They’re not exactly well-known, but then again, turning a school into a “gun-free zone” is as far as some people will allow us to go.
You know, aside from making kids wear those dumbass “shields” that don’t protect shit.
(And before anybody throws in, “Let’s arm the teachers,” the only time an armed teacher has ever stopped a school shooter was after he’d already killed three people. Are those really acceptable losses for you so long as the teacher gets to carry his stupid gun? Because it’s not to the rest of us.)
